I’ve had the Nintendo Switch since about two weeks after its launch. The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild is easily one of the best, if not the best, launch titles a new console system can have. BotW is my personal game of the year; I’ll argue vehemently in its defense that no other forthcoming game will match what it offers. Its vast open-world. Its game mechanics. The way in which it has you — the player — write your own story. Every person who picks up and plays BotW will experience it completely different, and that’s special.
Horizon Zero Dawn is really, really good and had a fascinating story, but it can’t be described as “special,” in my opinion. Mass Effect: Andromeda is cool, but nothing more. Middle-earth: Shadow of War is sure to be awesome and stunning, but… again, not “special.” The only game releasing, well hopefully this year, that I see challenging BotW is Super Mario Odyssey. If it’s anywhere near the quality of Super Mario Galaxy 2, Zelda… watch out.
